Head of METROPOL Group Mikhail Slipenchuk and Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj dive to bottom of Lake Baikal in the manned submersibles “Mir”
As part of the program of Scientific Research Expedition “Mir
submersibles in Lake Baikal”, Head of METROPOL Group Mikhail
Slipenchuk and Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj today made
a dive to the bottom of Lake Baikal in the Mir-1 submersible. The
commander and pilot of the submersible was Anatoly Sagalevich, Hero
of Russia and Chairman of the Technical Board of the Fund for
Protection of Lake Baikal.
According to the scientific program of the expedition, today’s
dive was carried out in the central region of Lake Baikal. Upon
successful completion of the dive, President Elbegdorj, Commander
Sagalevich and Mikhail Slipenchuk, Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal shared their
impressions with reporters gathered at the stern of the Metropolia
special-purpose vessel. Buryatian Republic President Vyacheslav
Nagovitsyn and his wife were among the spectators.
We remind you that Scientific Research Expedition of the Russian
Academy of Sciences “Mir submersibles in Lake Baikal”, funded by
METROPOL Group, is being held for the third year. Its objective is
to address a number of fundamental scientific problems as well as
attract international attention to the urgent problems of Lake
Baikal.
